Persona 5

Just bought this given it's universal praise and me being a huge fan of the franchise. Really loving Protagonists Persona Arsene, great design. Look like the theme here is rebellion, interesting subject matter for a Japanese game.

I actually somewhat like the look of this game, it's very stylish. As someone that isn't at all into anime or JRPGs, is it something you think I should still give a chance?

Depends on what elements put you off. It is very much a JRPG, turn based combat the works. It's also so steeped in Japanese pop culture the school test can be borderline impossible unless you are a true nihongophile.

That said the main theme of this game is rebellion a very strange choice given Japan's cultural fixation on hierarchy this seems a rather uniquely western choice.

In a move that doubtless pleased SMT purists demon bargaining has returned. Getting new personas requires engaging them in conversation gaining a new personas, money or an item.

Bought this today digitally, as it was the same price as on Amazon and I wanted to play it straight away. Only thing annoying me is the semi-recent JRPG trope of ten-hour linear tutorials where they show you the world you'll be able to explore, but when you try, it won't let you.

Hate that they replaced Igor's voice actor with what sounds like the Epic Voice Guy from Honest Game Trailers. I keep expecting him to say "bewbs". Aria of the Soul still being the theme in the Velvet Room is fantastic though.

Well his Japanese voice actor passed away, they had up until now just recycled voice clips. Guess when they recast they decided to do the same in English.

I read about that, but it's such a shame they replaced the delightfully quirky English voice actor with someone who so far has demonstrated the expressive range of Microsoft Sam (the Windows XP era text-to-speech voice). Maybe his Social Link will shed some light on his character, unless it's one of those ones that automatically advances at certain points in the story, like Teddie's.

I'm not liking the loli twins in the Velvet Room either, I much prefer Elizabeth, Margaret and especially Marie.

At least the voice wasn't literally Microsoft Sam; a lot of games use it as a male placeholder voice before adding VO, so I've had robotic conversations aplenty.

That's hilarious. Getting Microsoft Sam to read dirty limericks was a programming project of mine in the Windows XP days. The Google Translate voices are pretty good for a laugh these days. The UK English one sounds like such a stroppy cow and the Japanese one predictably sounds like an anime character.
