Battlefield Hardline beta 7/10

Was pretty fun tbh, moreso than I was expecting.

+ Good gun handling
+ Audio is done well
+ Conquest is as fun as ever
+ Great with friends

- Heist mode is somewhat lightweight, it's not Payday beater
- Police v criminals theme doesn't really work in Conquest mode
- Destruction is disappointing
- Class type loadouts are limiting

The Neverwinter Beta. It was so amazeballs I put in over 20 hours from Sunday - Monday, levelled up to 22 and got loads of equipment, and now I hear the progress isn't supposed to carry over to the actual launch. Gutted doesn't quite cover it, I put so much effort into Keyleth Darksbane >_<

Still, from what I played I'd still give it a solid 8/10. Need to sort out the lag in multiplayer maps and the queue times were way too long. Look forward to release though!

Far Cry 4

I've put 55+ hrs into the campaign to complete it and generally 'explore' the map for the additional items (journals, masks, etc). You can barely move for more than a minute or two before encountering an animal attack, bad guys or someone needing help.

I did try the MP modes (although only to get the achievement) and can't say I enjoyed them. To be fair I probably didn't give it a chance.

Cannot comment on co-op play as I'm still looking for someone to join-up with. I did have a session planned with DesignateTurian, but this was scuppered by an unexpected visit from the in-laws Undecided

Overall I'd give this 8/10.

Bought it last week along with GTAV (I know I'm late to the party) not played it FC yet but I'm about half way through GTA.

A lot of people seem to be complaining it FC3 re-skinned - is that the case?

Yakuza 4 10/10

What can I say about Yakuza, other than it is the manliest game franchise on the planet. No dudebros here, just the manliest of men. 4 features rotating protagonists Shun Akiyama, a moneylender with strange conditions for loaning money. Taiga Saejima, former yakuza and death row inmate who escapes to learn the truth of what happened 25 years ago, Masayoshi Tanimura, a corrupt cop trying to find out who murdered his father 25 years ago and of course Kazuma Kiryu, the dragon of Dojima, who just really wants to be left alone to run his orphanage. All 4 have different fighting styles and their stories connect together to form one big conspiracy.

In essence what we have is a yakuza thriller as a playable game, not unlike how Way of the Samurai is basically a series of chanbara movies as games. Kamurocho feels like a real place (based on Tokyo's own red light district) and there are minigames aplenty to distract you from the main story. It's well written with likable protagonists but the real draw is the HEAT moves, blows that do critical damage and look and sound really painful. Whether it's slamming a guy into a wall then kneeing him in the back of the head, suplexing a guy on a guardrail, or just dropping a guy to the floor and slamming a fist straight into his face. They are brutal and ever so cool.

Sony is bringing over Yakuza 5 to the west later this year, and I for one cannot wait. Big Grin

I guess you could say it was similar, but I still enjoyed it. I'd probably change the difficulty setting if you've played FC3. I did it on normal and found it quite easy.

Witcher 2 on Xbox. Just finished multiple runs and have 49/50 Cheevos. How long do you think it will take to roll 5 of a kind at poker dice?

It is a 9/10 game for me. Would be 10/10 with a better control layout (or at least the ability to change the default one to something I'm comfortable with and the ability to REDUCE the sensitivity). There are a few niggles from the PC version like when there are two objectives on a minimap which are mutually exclusive (a or b), it would be nice to know which is which. On the PC version you can (mouse hover) but on the xbox you can't and it's really annoying to walk into a cutscene and find its not the one you wanted!

Still a great game though and streets ahead of anything else in the genre on the box.

I'm back on XCOM. (Playing 360 through my One so if you want to play something on the One just message me) My soldiers are all going to be named after Halo Spartans. Casualties so far include Naomi-010, Douglas-042 and (gasp) John-117.
Doing Ironman on normal, it's not bad, going fairly strongly. Fantastic game still, would love a proper sequel on the Xbone, could be proper awesome. I give it 9/10 usually.

Wolfenstein The New Order

+Story
+Guns, lots of
+dual-wielding guns, lots of
+Original Wolfenstein 3D easter egg
+Easy 1k

-cheevs for playing on Uber can be bypassed by playing the whole game on Easy, then replaying last chapter on Uber
-short-ish campaign
-no MP or follow-up DLC
-achievements are hardly a challenge

8/10 mostly due to story and the massive gun porn. Reading some of the newpaper clippings from the alternate Nazi future are chilling!
