Gears of War

Meant in jest I know Kai, but you hint at what I think is one of the massive concerns next gen gaming has right now - lack of creativity. Everyone is too scared to make a new game because there have been so many high profile failures thus far. The fact that remasters are so easy (343 are still wearing the dunce hat) and sell so well means they seem the easiest option while developers still consider themselves to be in transition. How long is that acceptable for though? PC gains ground everyday and the PS4 has finally bolted out of the gate with Bloodborne. Us on Xbox One are still waiting for THAT game to really truly enter the next gen. The one that captures everything - next gen tech, next gen graphics and above all else just a must have game. A gears of war remaster announcement means that we will probably be still at least a year off a truly new Gears game.

Anyone besides me wonder if it'll be like Nintendo did with Bayonetta 2? Add in the original as a download code or something as a way to maybe charge a bit more for a new game that they're worried may not have a good reception?

I'd be worried that they didn't have faith in a truly great franchise if that was the case, how much can you screw things up?

Gears 1 has no horde mode, and the gameplay is quite rigid compared with 2, and basic compared to 3. If they make Gears 1 with all of 3s benefits, do the same for 2, and 3, then put it on Unreal engine 4, and I'd say that would be more than worthy of remastering.
...and if you tell that to the kids of today, they wont believe you!

I suppose, but there's something about the whole thing that feels odd to me. I mean if you want to shout about this being a CE:A-type project before E3 then why not yell rather than go with a leak?

Admittedly it's been a while since Gears got a go-round on my machine as I am not the series biggest fan so I hadn't really considered your points, and you're right that does seem like a good pedigree to bring in. I just can't shake the feeling that there may be some tension about the project's success behind the scenes beyond running the gauntlet of remaster fatigue.

There were rumours of a remastered Alan Wake being included as a pre-order bonus for Quantum Break, so this could be a similar deal.

If they announce a Gears remaster of just the first one for €60 I'll rage.

A Gears remaster as MS's big reveal would be a crushing and bitter disappointment for me lol

They'll reveal the next Gears along with a HD remaster of the original for download at a budget price. Bet on it.

Free to €35 would be alright.

I know it's ages off but I thought the game looked exactly like the old gears and seemed to play exactly the same - disappointed they didn't try to reinvent. Did like the lighting though, and the old games looked pretty darn good and played pretty well so it's only minor quibbles. But still, wouldn't have ended the show on that.
